I am 54 years of age from Fgura. I have been keeping tropical fish for the past 42 years.( I joined the club in 1971) and have been in the committee for the past 15 years. Besides keeping fish, I have bred several species in the past years. I keep a variety of fish such as tetras, gouramis, discus, barbs, oscars, rainbows. My tropical fish syndrome began a long time ago, 1968 the year of the beginning of such hobby. It all began when my father who used to work in Malta Dry Dock got me a pair of Guppies given to him by Joe Caruana (one of the presidents of the club) I prepared a Sweet jar with clean well water and kept it in the kitchen. The following morning I woke up earlier than normal to check my fish as she was pregnant and to my amassment I found some fry, and you can imagine the shout I expressed and all the family was down stairs watching such fish, my father said that those are mosquitoes and he was going to throw them away. I told him, no asks Joe to come and see them after work (and that was my first protection) From that day onwards I never looked back and my hobby came part of me. My role in the committee was from a normal member to cashier, pro, vice president and now as president. I am 48 years of age from Msida and residing at Fgura. I have been keeping tropical fish for the past 35 years. I joined the club way back in 1990 and have been in the committee for the past 10 years. I have been appointed Secretary of the club 3 years ago. Currently I have about 20 tanks with tropical fresh water species. Besides keeping fish, I have bred several species in the past years. I keep a variety of fish such as tetras, gouramis, discus, barbs, oscars, rainbows and a variety of chiclids.

Chef by profession and self tought Aquarist. No Job is too big for Lawrence. From lighting to plumbing everytihng the club needs from an infrastructure perspective is handled by the man. Veteran of the club and his dedication to the hobby is shown by his constant and precious contribution to the club.

I am Jaroslav Darmanin and live at Marsascala. I am 33 years old and work as a Technician with ST Microelectronics. I like to watch the Formula 1 other than the aquarium hobby. I have been with this hobby approximately 23 years and started with a small plastic tank with mollies. This made me look forward to increase the aquariums one after the other. I have bred different fish, some of which, are Koi, Shubunkin and many other types of live bearers. I had some types of Malawies, Guramies, Fighters and some Chiclids. My favourite fish is the Angel fish. My favourite time is when I manage to breed the fish, as I feel happy seeing them growing step by step. I have been a member with the club for 12 years, and I have been in the committee for the past 5 years. When I am not duty at work, I like to attend for the meeting we have every month as I always learn something new. I advice that every person that have this hobby, join the club and attend for this meeting as it is of a great help..

I am Joseph Paul Azzopardi, 40 years of age from. I have been keeping tropical fish as long as i can remember on and off, my first fish was a goldfish that my parents bought me from a fair. I joined the club in 1997 and have been in the committee for the past 12 years. I have been appointed cashier of the club 1 year ago, previusly I have been P.R.O. Currently I have about 15 Tanks with tropical fresh water species. Besides keeping fish, I have bred several species in the past years. I am 51 years of age from Birzebbugia. I have been keeping tropical fish for the past 40 years.I’ve been a member of the club for approximately the last 6 years and have been in the committee for the last year. I have been appointed vice-treasurer of the club about a year ago. Currently I have about 8 tanks with tropical fresh water species. I have kept many species of fish during the years, including the community fish, like Guppies, Mollies, Platies and Tetras. I have also keep brackish fish including Scats, Monos and Archer fish. Other species I have are from the Cichlid family. I Have Malawis, and a few cichlids from Lake Tanganika. I have also kept and bred Angelfish, Other species i have bred include Brichardi, and Red Katanga and many of the live bearers. A few years ago I started keeping Discus, This last year i have managed to breed them, and it has given me great satisfaction, though I still need to learn more about this fish, especially its water requirements. Eventually I hope to have a fish room, where i can keep my fish tanks together in one place. Another dream is to have a sea water tank. But that is in the future, something to look forward to.

I’m Bertrand Sant, 24 years old from Iklin. I have been keeping tropical fish for the past 14 years. I joined the club 9 years ago and have been in the committee for the past 6 years. I have been appointed in charge of the bar at the club and taking care of the table shows. Currently I have about 7 Tanks and 2 ponds with tropical and sub-tropical fresh water species. Besides keeping fish as my hobby, I like photography and taking care of my other pets.
I keep a variety of fish in specie tanks, such as Blind cave tetras, Paradise fish, red tail goodeids, and American flag fish. In my living room I have a 400ltrs tank with a red tail giant gourami together with an albino clarias catfish, a pair of climbing perch and two polypterus, (senegal and endechleri). In my two small ponds (750ltrs each) I’m keeping 7 koi carps.

I am 33 years old and I live in Lija. I have been keeping tropical fish for the past 20 years. I joined the club in 1990 and have joined the committee in 2010 . I have been appointed as IT Administrator of the club. Currently I have one main Tank with tropical fresh water species, I mainly Keep various species of gouramis, angelfish and rainbowfish.
